FACILITATED WORKSHOPS FOR 2008 AND BEYOND
Submitted by pat on Tue, 09/09/2008 - 10:38pm.
THE LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE
Workshops are offered in areas that may benefit from a facilitative approach. Workshops are also offered for those who are interested in learning in the basic skills of facilitation and how it may be applied in different areas of life and work.
WORKSHOP HW-01. LEADING & MANAGING – WORKSHOP FOR ASIAN MANAGERS
There is an inherent tension in Asian management styles between an open, egalitarian style and the more traditional guru-disciple, paternal style of the Asian experience.
In small to medium family owned Asian businesses – this tension may cut across generational lines making transitions difficult and affecting the continued growth of the organisation. In large corporations, this tension may be seen between the senior more traditional style management practitioners and the emerging managers and leaders of the 21st century who have had global exposure.
In this facilitated workshop the benefits and challenges of these styles will be discussed and delegates will be invited to make an assessment of what works best for them in their own work context. The outcome desired is a self designed approach which has practical applications in the workplace.
WORKSHOP HW-02. FACILITATIVE COACHING - A SKILL FOR LEADERS
Coaching is often understood as the sharing and teaching of skills and experiences – as a sports coach would work with an athlete.
Facilitative Coaching brings the practice to another level - where instead of the transfer of skills, the intent of the encounter is to facilitate the coaching client to consider making changes in behaviour or practice in order to meet a desired objective.
To achieve this the Coach needs to listen actively and be skilled in drawing out the client to discuss views and options that are relevant to the outcome.
The workshop will focus on the skills that the Coach will require and provide opportunity to practise this in a simulation to build confidence and understanding. After the workshop, delegates will have a model of action with which they can begin facilitative coaching with their colleagues and team members.
WORKSHOP HW-03 THE LANGUAGE OF FACILITATION
The skill of facilitation is rooted in a particular style of phrasing and asking questions that may be developed. For those who are interested to actively use facilitation in different aspects of work, it may be worthwhile to spend some time in getting familiar with the language patterns, understand the principles and practise using different phrase patterns in simulations.
This will assist the delegate to move more quickly into a faciliative style in one-to-one encounters as well as, with teams.
THE TEAM EXPERIENCE
WORKSHOP HW-04. FACILITATING EFFECTIVE TEAM MEETINGS
Leading effective team meetings are often a challenge to team leaders and managers. It is a balance between getting people to speak up and bringing the diverse opinions together to arrive at decisions that are acceptable to all.
The skill of facilitation is useful when leading meetings as it provides an approach to invite discussion and various methods to assist groups to come to consensus.
The workshop will introduce the skills and provide opportunities for practice and feedback. It would enable delegates to develop their own meeting facilitation approach and be willing to use it at work.
WORKSHOP HW-05. FACILITATING TEAMWORK
Teamwork reaches its greatest heights when team leaders are best at drawing members to work together wholeheartedly. To do this, team leaders need to
a) facilitate each team member to give of their best and
b) be able to direct the efforts of the team to the intended objective
In using facilitation deliberately to move the team, team leaders need to be conscious of individual and group dynamics – as well as, the impact they may have when interacting with the team.
This workshop will present the skills necessary, and, provide delegates with opportunities to practise in simulations.
INDIVIDUAL & CAREER DEVELOPMENT
The worker of the 21st century is internet savvy and exposed to global options. Whilst this has definite positive impact – occasionally it leads to a situation where new employees tend not to commit to a job for long – and keep job hopping, looking for the dream job, that may elude them for some time.
The purpose of these workshops is to provide methods for individuals to review their experiences and options and make a commitment to continued growth in a specific direction.
WORKSHOP HW-06. POSITIVE PERSPECTIVES – POSITIVE LIFE
This is designed for young as well as, the senior employee who may be faced with a change situation. It will introduce the benefits of positive world views and invite the delegates to consider a shift in mental attitudes and views of the world, to effect positive change.
WORKSHOP HW-07. SELF & CAREER ALIGNMENT: VISION-MISSION-ACTION
This is targeted for the new employee as it provides delegates with an approach to developing a personal vision statement that will link career choices to values and plans for the future.
The outcome will be individuals who are self directed and aware of what they want in life. They would be ready to make good choices and plan ahead in terms of career and lifestyle.
